A retired CIA agent is haunted by the agency he once worked for and his own nightmares when he suddenly receives a visit from an unknown man after nearly three decades. At the time, Jeff Bridges was diagnosed with and subsequently underwent treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. When he recovered, the series went back into production.
Bridges described the return as returning after a “long weekend” on the podcast in July 2022. Featured at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024). The cast of the series is excellent so far.
Jeff Bridges is fantastic in “The Old Man,” as is John Lithgow. Amy Frederica Brenneman was what this show needed; the air of mystery of her character Amy brings it out, just like in HBO’s “The Leftovers.” Her sense of vulnerability fits Jeff Bridges so well, even if Jeff wants to get out of the way as quickly as possible; he is attracted to Zoe McDonald, Amy’s character, and when the two actors go head to head, there is real chemistry. The Old Man has extremely intelligent writing that was boosted by the talent of the ensemble cast.
This thriller goes in some interesting directions, I’m very excited to see how this series continues to develop! I can’t wait for the next episode! Premiere episodes 8/10.
