After an unpleasant incident at their elite college, half-siblings Caroline and Lucien decide to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States of America. It will be the third attempt at a TV series based on the world of Okrutne namjere (1999). The direct-to-video sequel Cruelty 2 (2000), with Amy Adams replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar in the role of Kathryn Merteuil, was originally a scripted television series before being made into a feature film. Gellar would later reprise her role as Kathryn in the 2016 NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series.
