Struggling with his dual identity, failed comedian Arthur Fleck meets the love of his life, Harley Quinn, while incarcerated at Arkham State Hospital. Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson, and writer-director Todd Phillips talk about what scared them the most about making a musical sequel. Plus, Gaga opens up about how she got into her dark persona and how she stayed true to it. This initially led to speculation that Harley Quinn would appear in the film, which was confirmed shortly thereafter.
The name Folie a Deux comes from 19th-century French psychiatrists Charles Lasègue and Jules Falret. The term was coined to refer to two or more people who share the same madness or delusion. The foreman speaks of “the people of New York”; instead of Gotham City. This is because New York State is the plaintiff in the criminal case and this version of Gotham City is apparently located in New York State (most versions have Gotham in New Jersey).
Arthur Fleck: [Sad face written as a mean autograph] I HOPE YOU HAVE CANCER. The film opens with the Looney Tunes title sequence, with the Warner Bros. Featuring the cast of AniMat’s The Wicked Discovery of a Lifetime (2022). Merry Go Round Written by Eddie Cantor, Murray Mencher and Charles Tobias.
I really enjoyed the first Joker movie directed by Todd Phillips, but I have to say what the hell were they thinking when they decided to make a sequel. Unlike the first film, this one has virtually no story at all, but rather a series of weird misleading vignettes strung together with musical numbers that get old very quickly and make the runtime unnecessarily long for its actual entertainment value. I was still waiting and waiting, thinking that this was setting up a big moment that unfortunately never comes, and instead I was left with nothing but disappointment because the film ends on a worse note than it started. I was on the fence when I saw the trailer, but now that I’ve seen it, I wish I wasn’t.
If you’re a fan of the first film, it’s a pretty important consideration whether you like it or not, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
